Build Your Business with the Right Clients
You left your corporate job because you wanted freedom and flexibility. The big irony of running your own business is that you can easily just create yourself a job. With no vacations, no income security, and a lot of stress.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt my friend. Well honestly, still printing that t-shirt.
It’s the entrepreneurial struggle to move into that CEO role and have the revenue to make that possible.
Are You Ready to Attract More Clients and Book Out Your Calendar?
If you’re ready to build a business that truly brings you the freedom you want, then you need a marketing partner that can help.
Sales in the online space isn’t all about quick strategies. You have to have a solid foundation of long-term, evergreen lead generation to keep your revenue consistent. So even when those referrals dry up or the social media algorithms change, you’re still getting new people into your sphere.

That’s where Captain Coder® comes in. We’re literally your digital marketing sidekick. There to help you crush your online marketing goals and carry you over that consistency hurdle.

Marisa's Origin Story
Hi, I’m Marisa! (Pronounced Mar-ē-sa)
The short version is I started learning to code when I was 13 and I’ve been working in marketing since I was 18 and fresh out of high school. I’ve been a web developer, a Reputation Manager (yay online reviews!), a ghost-writing blogger, a copywriter, social media manager, and a digital ads strategist. I know the digital marketing world because I’ve been in almost every facet of it.
I know how to build your website to improve your on-page SEO, write the SEO and customer-converting copy, and follow accessibility guidelines to keep your company protected and inclusive. I also understand the best practices for building your website as a landing page for digital ads, because I’ve run those campaigns myself. When I code your website, you know that it’s fast, secure, easy to manage on your own, and built to work with your social media and digital marketing campaigns.
But mostly, I understand your needs as a done-for-you service provider because I’ve been one myself for almost two decades.
Meet the Superheroes
Marisa VanSkiver | CEO
I help Captain Coder clients reach their strategic goals – whether that’s through code, websites, their copy, or other digital marketing methods. I enjoy this all so much that I also teach Digital Marketing at Wichita State University.
I currently reside in Wichita, KS with my sidekick husky-mix Mac. I am a giant nerd, and I don’t say that lightly. I grew up borrowing and sneaking comic books from friends (my mom still maintains that they’re a waste of money), with Spider-Man and X-Men being childhood favorites. You probably guessed, but I’m a huge fan of the MCU, and Captain America has long won the spot of my favorite hero (thus my years-old nickname, Captain Coder). While the MCU is vastly superior to the DCCU, I cannot pick a favorite between Star Trek and Star Wars. I do also enjoy good “adult” books and it will come as no surprise that I have a soft spot for great Scottish fiction.
Erin Taylor | Business Manager
The “second brain” of Captain Coder, Erin ensures that projects and Marisa stay on track and helps to ensure company growth and customer satisfaction.
The owner of Lunimae Strategy & Systems Design, she provides operational and productivity support to female website designers like myself. Before founding Lunimae, Erin worked as an IT project manager and business analyst managing system implementation projects in sales, finance, document retention, cyber security, and order-to-cash.
Erin lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband and dog, Phog. She enjoys tacos, reading, traveling, & looking for sharks teeth on the beach
Nicole Pasquale | Web Developer
Nicole is the primary coder these days at Captain Coder and she’s rocking it! She’s always liked building cool shit and while it took her awhile to find coding, she’s so glad she did. She loves that our projects allow her to be creative and technical at the same time.
A natural problem-solver, Nicole loves to help our clients establish and improve their digital presence.
She currently lives in Chicago with her cat (Loki), Aussie (Whitley) & partner, Shelby. An emo kid at heart, she loves Paramore and is just a little obsessed (her words!). A fan of NCAA Women’s basketball, she follows a few teams, but the UConn Huskies are her favorite. She also loves to cook in her spare time.
Kalyn Johnson | Executive Assistant
The right hand to our team, Kalyn thrives on schedules and LOVES a good spreadsheet; organization is her jam. (Thank goodness for us!) At Captain Coder, she helps to keep everything in place, ensuring we have the details we need to keep things moving smoothly, and helps to manage incoming client communications.
When she isn’t working, she enjoys reading psychological thrillers, watching Survivor with her husband Jeremy, or playing taxi for her 5 kids.
Sergeant Mac | Health and Sanity Coach
Mac keeps Marisa from sitting at her desk for too many hours in a day. A “trained fitness coach,” he gets her out on at least two walks a day and begs for attention and play time breaks to keep her from getting eye strain.
Mac loves attention and, weather depending, will join team and client calls to at least say hello. If a siren goes by, you can also bet that you’ll hear him howling back.
His favorite activity is walking, though he especially loves hiking in the mountains (a new-found love) and getting out to the local parks. He also enjoys tearing all of the stuffing and squeakers out of his toys.
